About SAT

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. The test is designed to measure a high school student’s readiness for college and provides colleges with a common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. The SAT is composed of two main sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and Math, with an optional Essay section.

1. Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW)
– Reading Test: This section includes questions that test reading comprehension and understanding of passages from literature, historical documents, social sciences, and natural sciences.
– Writing and Language Test: This part assesses grammar, vocabulary in context, and editing skills. It involves passages that require correction and improvement.

2. Math
– Math Test – No Calculator: This portion tests arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis without the use of a calculator.
– Math Test – Calculator: This section allows the use of a calculator and includes questions on advanced math topics, including trigonometry and complex problem-solving.

3. Essay (Optional)
– The optional essay evaluates the student’s ability to read a passage and analyze how the author builds an argument. The essay is scored separately from the other sections.

Scoring
– Each section (EBRW and Math) is scored on a scale of 200-800, leading to a total score range of 400-1600.
– The Essay is scored on three dimensions (Reading, Analysis, and Writing) on a scale of 2-8.
